Controlling Your Thoughts Through Feelings08.13.07

Law of Attraction

If you missed yesterday’s post about the Law of Attraction you may want to go read that post before you begin to read this one.

It’s impossible to monitor every thought we have. Research has shown that we have about 60,000 thoughts a day. It would be impossible to control all of those thoughts. However, our feelings let us know what we’re thinking. Our thoughts create our feelings. We, as humans, can differentiate between the good and the bad feelings because of the way they make us feel.

Bad Feelings

  • Fear
  • Depression
  • Guilt
  • Resentment
  • Hate Revenge
  • Anger

Good Feelings

  • Love
  • Gratitude
  • Joy
  • Passion
  • Happiness / Excitement
  • Hope / Satisfaction

The good and bad feelings can be referred to as good or bad frequencies and good or bad vibes. When you celebrate the good feelings you’ll draw to you more good feelings and things that make you feel good. The good feelings are the ones that you should want to feel all the time. Whether you’re feeling good or bad, you’re creating a future based on your feelings - on track of your desires or off track of your desires. The law of attraction is working every second. Everything you think and feel is creating your future.

“Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” - Albert Einstein 1879 - 1955

The Power of Visualization

  • Visualize “When you visualize, then you materialize.” Dr. Denis Waitley conducted a study with Olympic athletes called visual motor rehearsal. He had the athletes run their event only in their mind. Incredibly, the same muscles fired in the same sequence when they were running their race in their mind as when they were running it on the track. The mind can’t distinguish whether you’re really doing it or if it’s just practice. Close your eyes everyday for several minutes and visual having what you want and feel the feelings of already having it. Decide what you want, believe you can have it, believe you deserve it, and believe that it’s possible for you.

Trying Something: Create a vision board. Take pictures of things you would like to achieve or attract, a house, car, spouse, et cetera, and put it on your vision board. When you look at your vision board begin to visualize having already acquired all of your items and the feelings that come with them.

Visualizing something can create a euphoria of feelings. Capture those feelings and hold on to them. It’s the good feelings you don’t want to let go of because the law of attraction will work and more of those feelings will enter your life. If this all sounds bogus to you, just give it try. You never know if something will work if you don’t take the time to try it for yourself. I’m going to be making my vision board these next few days to help motivate myself to become the success I vision myself to be.

Do You Understand The Secret That Brings Success?08.12.07

The Secret - Law of Attraction

I’ve recently stumbled upon something referred to as the secret. Some of you may know it, some of you may not. The secret is something I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life, whether the times are good or the going gets rough. The secret will help me get through those hard times and make my dreams and goals become something tangible - a reality.

What is The Secret?
You’re probably sitting there wondering, what is the secret? We all work with one infinite power and guide ourselves with infinite lines and parallels. We all work with one power, one law - attraction. The secret is the law of attraction. Everything coming into your life is being attracted to it by the images and thoughts in your mind.

Fact: 1% of the population earns around 96% of all our money that’s being eared. If you think that this is an accident, it’s not. It’s designed that way. This small group of people, 1% of the population, knows the secret and you are now being introduced to the secret as well.

  • “The Secret gives you everything you want; happiness, health, and wealth.” - Bob Proctor
  • “You can have, do, or be anything you want.” - Dr. Joe Vitale MSC.D.
  • “We can have whatever it is we choose. No matter how big it is.” - John Assaraf

The Secret To You

The Law of Attraction
The law of attraction says that like attracts like. What the secret is really talking about is the level of thought. Our job as humans is to hold on to the thoughts of all we want and to make it absolutely clear in our mind the things that we want. From that, we start to invoke on one of the greatest laws of the universe - the law of attraction. You become what you think about most, but you also attract what you think about the most. The law of attraction can be put into 3 words “thoughts become things.”

Most people don’t understand that thoughts have a frequency. Thoughts send out that magnetic signal that draws the parallel back to you. If you see yourself living in abundance, you will attract it - visualization. It works with every person so don’t discourage yourself!

“The Secret is the answer to all that has been, all that is, and all that will ever be.” - Ralph Emerson 1803 - 1882

The Problem
Most people are thinking about what they don’t want and wonder why it shows up over and over and over again. The law of attraction doesn’t care whether you perceive something to be good or bad or whether you don’t want it or do want it. The law of attraction responds to your thoughts. For example, if you’re sitting at your desk looking at a mountain of debt feeling terrible about it, that’s the signal you’re putting out into the universe. You feel it on every level of your being.

Focus all of your attention on the things you want. The law of attraction will give you what you want every time. When you focus on the things you don’t want, such as “I don’t want to be late for work,” you’re really calling that thought to existence, hitting all the traffic lights red, and it will show up over and over and over again. The law of attraction is not bias to wants or don’t wants. It manifests the things you think of more. The law of attraction is always working. It’s working as much as you’re thinking. Anytime your thoughts are flowing, the law of attraction is operating. It’s an ongoing process just as your thoughts are.

When you focus on something with a lot of passion it makes it happen even faster. Focus on things with your heart and the law of attraction will attract the positive thoughts that you think of. Change your focus to the things you do want rather than the things you do not want. Be positive on your outlook and orientation and you will attract positive people, events, and circumstances. Your life is a physical manifestation of the thoughts that go on in your head.

Understanding the Secret of the Law of Attraction
This isn’t wishful thinking or imaginary craziness. This is a deeper basic understanding. The mind shapes the very things that are perceived. Many people who discover the secret become afraid of their negative thoughts. It has been scientifically proven that an affirmative thought is a hundred times more powerful than a single negative thought. The great thing about your thoughts is that they don’t come true instantly. We’d definitely be in trouble if they did. The time delay between your thought and that thought coming true allows you to reassess, think about what you want, and make a new choice if necessary. Be aware of your thoughts, choose your thoughts carefully, and have fun with it. You are the Michelangelo of your life, sculpting the masterpiece (David) everyday through the thoughts and images you create in your mind.

We live in a universe in which there are laws. The law of gravity - if you fall off a building it doesn’t matter if you’re a good person or bad person; you’re going to hit the ground. Everything that’s around you in your life you’ve attracted. It’s hard to believe because you may not believe that you attracted the car accident, the mountain of debt, or whatever it happens to be. It may be hard to be realistic, but yes, you attract those things. It’s one of the hardest concepts to understand, but once you’ve accepted it it can and will be life transforming.

Ask your self these questions:

  • What kind of house do you want to live in?
  • Do you want to be a millionaire?
  • What kind of business do you want to have?
  • Do you want more success?
  • What do you really want?

Many people believe that people who follow the secret are egotistical and take things for granted. We all have our assumptions, but there are many people who gain happiness, health, and wealth who aren’t greedy and appreciate the life they’ve achieved through hard work. The answers to these questions can become a part of reality if you understand and apply the secret to your life.

I personally own the book as well as the DVD. The Secret is a great motivator for any entrepreneur and anyone wanting to improve their lifestyle. I’m currently watching the DVD for the second time, it’s in my disc drive and on pause as I write this. I’ve learned so much about how to use attitude towards my advantage and how to approach life in general. The Secret has allowed me to look at life from a different perspective, one that I appreciate and won’t take for granted.

A Recipe For Success06.29.07

Have you had a Jamba Juice? If you haven’t, then you’ve been living in a hole for quite some time! It’s kind of neat that 2 of the founders of Jamba Juice, Kevin Peters and Joe Vergara, were students and graduates of Cal Poly State University (the college I attend). The 3rd was Kirk Perron who was a young entrepreneur who graduated from Cuesta, a junior college near Cal Poly. Their very first store was known as the Juice Club and it opened in April 1990 on Foothill Boulevard near our campus. The idea to open the first Juice Club came from Kirk Perron.

Jamba Juice

The First Juice Club
After deciding to open the first Juice Club, Kevin Peters and Kirk Perron realized that they needed help planning menus, creating drink recipes, and blending the icy fruit drinks. They ended up hiring Joe Vergara (the 3rd founder), who was then a manger of another local fruit juice store. Kevin Peters helped open and run the first store, eventually documenting the systems and training personnel for future expansion.

What Mattered Most
The first fruit blends were named Banana Berry, Berry Lime Sublime, Peach Pleasure, Razzmatazz, and Strawberries Wild (one of my favorite).Kevin Peters said, “Our visions were pretty grand, but our initial focus was on the first store.” They also say that dedication, attention to detail, and a passion for people were also key factors to their success.

From the first store, from the very start, everything mattered – from the cleanliness of the store to the shape of the poured smoothie. There was a fanaticism on every level. –Kevin Peters

A Legendary Expansion
Once the trio of men considered the thought of expanding, they hung up a map of the United States to plot potential sites. It wasn’t long before customers around the nation were “clamoring” for more locations. “Tourists began asking for stores in their hometowns. Fast-food executives started arriving in groups, and the competitors started popping up.”

In 1992, still known as the Juice Club, the company began to franchise and the response was phenomenal.

We were giving presentations in huge ballrooms. People were flocking to hear how they could open a Juice Club. We went from simply recruiting good people to a strict process of qualifying and disqualifying the many interested parties.

A Fourth Member of the Crew
In 1992 the Juice Club needed more staff members to handle the fast growing business. A lday by the name of Linda Ozawa-Olds was brought on board, who eventually rose as the vice president of marketing. Linda states, “What attracted me to Juice Club was not only the concept, but the people. After a three-hour interview with Kirk, then meeting with Kevin and Joe, I knew this was where I wanted to be!”

A Search For a New Name
“In 1994, the franchising stopped when the Juice Club hit the radar screens of venture capitalists – including Howard Schultz, chairman of Starbucks, and John Mackey, chairman and CEO of Whole Foods Market.” Both of these men were recruited to serve on the board of directors. And soon after, a new name and a new “brand” had begun. Peters explained, “Although the Juice Club was a trademarked name, it was composed of words that were not totally proprietary. Numerous competitors with the word “juice” in their names were diluting the Juice Club brand.” Everyone agreed that a new name and logo was needed.

The trademark Jamba Juice whirl came first. Linda stated, “During a brainstorming session, we were discussing the actual whirl created inside a blender as a smoothie is being made. If you saw the whirl, you knew the smoothie was just right.” They took their ideas to an agency in Seattle, who developed the recognizable logo.

They all claimed that creating a new name was a lot more complicated. Linda said, “After hiring professionals, hearing rounds of names that didn’t resonate with us, and spending thousands of dollars, we decided to take matters into our own hands.” Kevin, Kirk, and Linda all went to Cal Poly’s Kennedy Library and agreed to meet each other 3 hours later with lists of potential names.

I ended up in the languages section looking up the word ‘celebrate.’ I had the word ‘jama’ on my list, and ‘jambalaya’ and ‘jamboree.’ Eventually I came up with ‘Jamba,’ and the word stuck.” – Linda Ozawa-Olds

Branding Jamba Juice
They had a big job ahead of them. They wanted to grow Jamba Juice into a brand of many choices: breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snack. They had to carve a niche in the marketplace and get people to understand that a smoothie is a healthy alternative to fast food. This worked without difficulty.

Jamba Juice Around the Nation
Jamba Juice now has some 600 locations throughout the United States and has future plans to go international. Earlier this year (2007), Jamba Juice went public when it merged with what is called a “blank check company” according to Peters. He explained: “A group of investors, one of whom started Blockbuster, got together and formed a company, registered it as a public entity with tradable stock, then went looking for a concept to purchase, allowing the blank-check company to use its resources to capitalize on the new concept’s potential. Jamba was that concept – and, roughly speaking, it became public upon the successful merger of the two companies.”

What Are the Founders Up to Now?
Perron and Peters now have varying degrees of involvement with the company. Perron, who left a few years ago, acts as a consultant for Jamba Juice and served on its board. He is also spending a lot of his time traveling. Peters left Jamba Juice in 2001 and now runs the business side of one of the West Coast’s largest private residential interior-design firms. Ozawa-Olds and Vergara are both living on the Central Coast, and were partners until recently, in 10 Jamba Juice franchises from Paso Robles to Camarillo.

All four partners still have the same respect and admiration for each other when Juice Club was first starting out.

“Kirk, Kevin, and Joe were my partners in crime. They pushed me, pulled me, appreciated me, and loved me. Together we shared a passion and a vision that had kept us united through good and bad times. It was Kirk’s initial vision, focus and determination that took us beyond one store. Jamba Juice would have never gotten off the ground if it weren’t for Kirk and his ability to build a strong team.” – Linda Ozawa-Olds

My Boxing Days Are Over05.14.07

Many of you know that I entered a philanthropy event held by Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig Ep) here at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. There’s more information on fight night in my fight night day 1 boxing post. Anyways, my boxing days are over.

Boxing hurts, it’s exhausting, but it’s also fun. Boxing is a challenge and that’s what I like. I like having to push myself to and beyond my limits. When I can’t go any longer I push myself that extra mile. Unfortunately, about 2 weeks ago I injured my right shoulder and haven’t been able to practice or spar 100% since. This morning after training, I finally made the decision to call it quits.

Lately, a lot of things have been going through my mind and I’ve just been pretty confused – about everything. Everything including my life, school, my future, what I want to do, and much more. Boxing was lingering in my head the other day and I was thinking that I can’t do the things I enjoy with this injured shoulder. I kept training through the pain and making my shoulder worse all for what? Just for one day of glory in the ring? I’ve realized that my health is my number one concern and that I don’t want to jeopardize my shoulder for when I get older. I don’t want to be in my 50’s and not have full rotation or any other problems with it. Therefore, my decision is final and I’m calling it quits.

I’ve already scheduled an appointment with an orthopedic (correct me if I’m wrong I think that’s what they’re called) for next Monday at 9:50 in the morning. I don’t understand how our campus orthopedic is booked until then, but I guess I can live with an injured shoulder for another week. Hopefully I’ll be able to begin therapy soon as well so that the scar tissue heals properly. Until next time!

Fitness: Fight Night Boxing (Day 16)04.25.07

Day 16 – April 25, 2007
Today started out as a pretty normal day despite the birds flying around my apartment complex early in the morning. My shoulder still hurts, but I think it’s getting better and I don’t think there are any tears. The level of pain from yesterday to today has changed dramatically. I got up at 8:00 am this morning, cooked myself breakfast, and relaxed until my first class at noon.

I haven’t done any sort of physical activity since Monday when I hurt my shoulder. Although, tonight at 9:30 pm. I did 50 wide pushups and 50 close pushups and my shoulder didn’t bother me. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with my shoulder so that by the beginning of next week I’ll be able to train. Not being able to go to the gym or train for boxing makes me feel like I’m lazy. I’m the kind of person that likes to stay busy with things to do every time of the day because it makes me feel like I’ve accomplished a lot.

Fitness: Fight Night Boxing (Day 15)04.24.07

Day 15 – April 24, 2007
No training, no physical activity, no nothing. Unfortunately, the pain in my shoulder was a lot painful this morning when I woke up. I can hardly rotate my arm and hold things out in front of me. I woke up at about 6:30 am because of the uncomforting pain my shoulder was giving me while lying in bed. I ended up getting up at 7:00 am, cooked myself breakfast, and studied for my nutrition midterm at 9:00 am. Afterwards, I made my way down to the health center to get my shoulder looked at.

The doctor said that my shoulder seemed fine and that she thinks that my ligaments were stressed. Though she’s the doctor, I don’t think she’s correct. I’m going to make an appointment with our campus orthopedic tomorrow to have my shoulder looked at again. I don’t think my ligaments being stressed includes me feeling my shoulder pop out two times and hearing a ripping or tearing sound both times. I’m going to lay off all physical activities for the remainder of this week. Hopefully my shoulder has stressed ligaments, because anything else such as a torn rotator cuff or a torn ligament would mean dropping out of fight night.

I see the shoulder injury as another obstacle in my life that will create a challenge that I’ll need to overcome. I’m hoping for the best, but preparing for the worst. Whatever comes of it, I’ll definitely be ready.

Breakfast (7:15 am)

  • Whole Wheat Bagel (24 oz)
  • 1 Scrambled Egg
  • 1 Slice of American Cheese
  • 2 Slices of Smoked Turkey
  • Multi Vitamin (Member’s Mark)
  • 1 Glass of Orange Juice

Lunch (12:00 pm)

  • 2 Slices Whole Wheat Bread
  • 7 Slices Turkey (Thin Slices)
  • 1 Slice of American Cheese
  • 5 Leaves of Romaine Lettuce
  • 2 Cups Mixed Vegetables
  • 1 Glass of Water

Dinner (6:15 pm)

  • 2 Portions Steamed Rice
  • 2 Portions Orange Chicken
  • 1 Mountain Dew

Snacks (All Day)

  • 10 Ritz with Peanut Butter at 10:00 pm
  • Strawberry Yogurt (Yoplait) at 10:00 pm

Fitness: Fight Night Boxing (Day 14)04.23.07

Day 14 – April 23, 2007
When I woke up this morning I felt much better than the previous days. My ears weren’t plugged up and I felt ready for the day. I got up at 8:00 am so that I could prepare myself breakfast, relax, and head off to training at 10:00 am. Today’s training session was definitely one of the hardest sessions I’ve been to in the last 2 weeks.

Warm Up: Our warm up routine was normal. We ran around in circles on the mats and then jump roped. After we did our jump roping we did fighter’s lunges and went directly to sumo squats. We did the lunges and squats for quite a while and my legs were pretty fatigued by the end of it. After doing the leg workouts we shadow boxed for about 5-10 minutes while Mike walked around and worked with our technique.

Training: I mentioned yesterday that today was going to be the first day of sparring. Boxing looks so easy on television and you don’t know how tough it is to box for more than 3 rounds. We did 5 rounds 2 minutes each and boy was it the most exhausting workout I’ve done in a while. I definitely have a new found respect for boxers and their stamina to last so long in the ring. I was huffing and puffing at the end of the second round. Though tiring, sparring was the most fun I’ve had since we started training. I got hit in the head pretty hard a few times, but I landed my fair share of jabs, punches, and hooks on my opponent. Unfortunately, while sparring I threw some right hooks and in the 3rd round I felt and heard my right shoulder pop. I’m pretty sure it popped out of its socket and went back in because the pain was excruciating. I threw another right hook and it did it again. The pain was so bad that I couldn’t fight regular so I switched to south paw and got in some decent hooks and punches that way. I believe that I showed the trainer that I could fight. I say this because I look small and I don’t think Mike thought I’d be able to fight as well as I did, especially against a bigger and taller opponent.

Static Exercises: After sparring my partner and I were instructed to go for a 2-3 minute run around the block. I didn’t wear my tennis shoes to training so I was instructed to do push ups, sit ups, and jump rope. I did so many push ups and sit ups that I could hardly do them by the time my partner got back from his run. After my partner came back we were instructed to take the punching bag on the ground (full length), hold it on our shoulders and do a squat. When we did one squat we were to lift it over our heads to the other shoulder and do a squat. The bag was heavy and this exercise definitely tested our endurance and strength to keep pushing harder. After the squats we put the bag on the floor and lay on opposite sides. We were instructed to do a sit up, hold each others arms and stand up, then sit back down and do another sit up and repeat the routine. This worked out our quadriceps pretty good and I was exhausted by the end of this routine. We ended our training session with more jump roping and I was glad it was over because my shoulder was killing me and I was mentally and physically drained.

Breakfast (8:30 am)

  • Whole Wheat Bagel (24 oz)
  • 1 Scrambled Egg
  • 1 Slice of American Cheese
  • 2 Slices of Smoked Turkey
  • Multi Vitamin (Member’s Mark)
  • 1 Glass of Orange Juice

Lunch (12:15 pm)

  • 2 Cups Mixed Vegetables
  • 10 Ritz with Peanut Butter
  • 1 Strawberry Yogurt (Yoplait)

Dinner (8:00 pm)

  • 9 Ling Ling Pot Stickers
  • 2 Cups Mixed Vegetables
  • 1 Cup White Rice
  • 1 Glass of Water

Fitness: Body Physique (Week 2)04.23.07

We’ve finally hit the end of week 2 of training and here are my pictures from the beginning of week 1 to the end of week 2. I don’t think I see any really big changes in my physique but that’s alright. I wasn’t able to get to the gym because of my class schedule and training schedule. Also, my father and sister were in town for the weekend so I was spending a lot of my time with them. Hopefully I’ll see some dramatic changes within the next few weeks as I’m going to try harder to train 3 times a week and get to the gym at least 3 times a week.

Fitness: Fight Night Boxing (Day 13)04.22.07

Day 13 - April 22, 2007
This morning started off rather normal, other than I didn’t eat breakfast until about 11:00 am. My father and sister were in town so I didn’t eat until then because we made plans for breakfast; I guess you could say it was brunch. Anyways, I’m displeased with how my training went for the weekend. I didn’t end up going to the gym at all because of open house / my father and sister were in town. Hopefully I’ll be able to go a few times this next week although I do have 3 exams this week so I’ll be pretty busy studying. Sorry for the inactiveness this weekend, I tried to provide quality posts at reasonable times.

I’m excited for tomorrow morning because we were instructed to get mouthpieces by tomorrow (April 23rd). I’m assuming that we’re finally going to start sparring with partners, which I’m glad about because blocking uppercuts and hooks for 30+ minutes has made me kind of bored. I guess you could say that my muscles got a good rest this weekend so I’ll be 100% for tomorrow morning’s training session.

Breakfast (11:00 am) at Ihop

  • 3 Buttermilk Pancakes
  • 2 Scrambled Eggs
  • 1 Hash Brown
  • 2 Glasses of Orange Juice
  • 1 Glass of Water

Lunch (2:00 pm)

  • Strawberry Yogurt (Yoplait)
  • 10 Ritz Crackers with Peanut Butter

Dinner (9:00 pm)

  • 1 Bowel of Chicken Chili (Roommate’s mom recipe)

Snacks (All Day)

  • 2 Cups Mixed Vegetables 6:30 pm
  • Strawberry Yogurt (Yoplait) 6:30 pm
  • 1 Glass of Cranberry Juice 6:30 pm

Fitness: Fight Night Boxing (Day 12)04.21.07

Day 12 – April 21, 2007
Today was just like any other weekend morning. My father and sister are in town for my fraternity formal, Carnation, so I’ve bee spending time with them. I mentioned in my previous posts that I’ve had a sore throat and what not. The other day I woke up with my right ear plugged up and this morning I woke up with both ears plugged up thinking I was deaf. I think that it’s just my allergies kicking up, but it’s sure making me feel exhausted. Being sick sucks because during my training sessions and workout sessions I get fatigued a lot quicker.

Tomorrow I hope to make it to the gym to workout my chest, triceps, and abs. Today I didn’t make it, because I had other errands to run before my father and sister picked me up to do some things with them. I know…I know…There’s no excuse, but when it comes to family I’ll give up time and other things to spend it with them. Today when I woke up I didn’t feel any soreness and just felt a little stiffness in my upper back, but that’s all good. I can’t wait until tomorrow because I’ll be able to workout and see my overall results from the week.

Breakfast (9:00 am)

  • 1 Flour Tortilla (Mission) 9:00 pm
  • 1 Scramble Egg 9:00 pm
  • Shredded Cheese 9:00 pm
  • Multi Vitamin (Member’s Mark)

Lunch (12:00 pm)

  • 2 Beef Hamburgers
  • 2 Bags of Doritos
  • 1 Bottle of Water

Dinner (7:30 pm) at The Cliffs in Shell Beach

  • 2 Chicken Breasts
  • 2 Portions of Carrots
  • 2 Portions of Green Beans
  • 2 Portions Mashed Potatoes
  • 3 Bottles of Coronas
