Life is too short to wake up with regrets.
Love the people who treat you right.
Forget about the ones who don’t.
Believe everything happens for a reason.
If you get a second chance, grab it with both hands.
If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy.
They just promised it would be worth it.

A lot of you have probably heard, seen, or read this quote before. I believe it does a great job summing up what life should be about. Make your life be worth living for and live it to the fullest. Value the people in your life who matter, have influenced, and made you, you. Not everyone is granted a second chance at something. One thing is for certain that we don’t get a second chance at life. Be fortunate if you are presented a second chance with anything and don’t take it for granted. I know that I’ve taken many things for granted and I don’t like to admit it, but I also regret a few things in my life. Rather than sitting around and thinking about past decisions and how things turned out take a stand and make the change in your life that you want and deserve.

I love the last two lines, “Nobody said life would be easy…They just promised it would be worth it.” Hopefully my life will be meaningful, as well as yours. I know that life is priceless and for the most part I’ve enjoyed it. I just want to be free to do as I please and find the happiness that I’ve been seeking.

And I’ll leave you with one more thought. You can find unexpected beauty in the most simplest and inconsequential things. Something that is absolutely ordinary can be stunningly beautiful.

Update: It seems as though I get a lot of visitors who searched for the life is too short to wake up with regrets quote in Google. I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section. Almost 8,000 views and one comment… Let’s help inspire, motivate, and empower others!

I read this quote for the first time when I saw it written in my teacher’s facebook page, and since then I always think of it and took it as my lifestyle. It has given me the strenght I need to go on through tough times. I totally agree with you Gregg, the last part is the best and most motivating of all. Thanks for sharing. Greetings from Argentina.

The only thing I could find about the author of this quote is that, Bob Marley said it. Only a couple of sites said it was his quote, but I could not find any validation.

it seems i posted this quote on facebook for my friends one day. it resonated with me and i wanted to share it. over the last 24 hours, my life seemingly fell to pieces and i need to find a way to dust myself off and start again. and just moments ago, a friend from another life time posted the quote back to me. i had forgotten the quote and that i’d even shared it. timing…

I have loved this quote for years, but it always makes me stop to think, that if I really did forget the people who didn’t treat me right, then I would have no one in my life.

(great picture by the way … beautiful)

I believe quotes are so valuable because they seem to “wake” us up and remind us of our own personal truths. I admire people who have a gift of putting such simple yet profound thoughts into words that reach so many people in times of need or times of seeking who they truly are. I loved the way you intrepreted these words to make them relate to you personally. Beautiful photo to push the inspiration even further! Thank you!

A beautiful picture of the tree !!. I had come accross this poem before …. but never really grasped the meaning. I was one of those who seached google to find the meaning of this poem and came across your site. As for me … I am struggling to come to terms with an ex parner (who I still care for) but who “does not treat me right” even two years after our relationship ended. This poem is a strong reminder not to live in the past !!

    I love these two parts:
“…So love the people who treat you right,…” So many of us do not appreciate or acknowledge those good people in our lives! We take them for granted.

“…If you get a chance, take it…” How many people get second chances? Not many, and we still take the chance for granted! Goes along with appreciation.

I don’t Luke this part, but it’s true:
“…Nobody said that it’d be easy, they just promised it would be worth it.” I want it to be easy most of the time. I don’t want to suffer!

I agree with u 100%…Life is full of so many unexpected things and some are bad, some good…We all have to take life and make the best of it. Im still just a teenager, so i know i have alot more to learn. I try and turn the worst of things into the best as much as i possibly can. Sometimes i don’t agree with the things that happen in my life, But i guess thats just life and everything happens for a reason. I would just like to know what the reasons are for the bad things that happen. I guess this thing called love grabbed ahold of e and never let me go. A broken heart i believe is the hardest thing anyone can go through, For me, So far it has been the worst thing to happen to me…Ive just expected so much more outta life and haven’t quit seen the good part in it yet.

I love your interpretation of this saying. It took me almost dying on a ER table to realize would I be happy if right now was my last moment. I went through shock for about a year, just trying to realize I was still alive. I looked at all the things in my life I would have regretted had that actually been my last day. I changed my whole entire life. What I realized is that while you are unhappy about things in your life, you do have the free will power to change what you dont like. Most of the situations are self inflicted, some arent but once you get past this idea, you will be able to truly make the changes. I agree, you need to realize you love and deserve better in life, and it starts with self love. Until you love yourself to give yourself the life you deserve, you will live with regrets.

Vday was very hard for me, as I had no significant other because I’ve been too busy with work that I seemed to forget about myself. I took some time to reflect and I realized that time was just passing me by… and if I get too consumed with work , all my young years are going to be done before I know it. I realized that I just need to just stop and appreciate life around me. Life isn’t all about money, its about love, laughs and appreciating the people that make a difference. Thanks for posting this quote up. Beautiful picture as well.

I was looking this up tonight because for some reason I was thinking it was Biblical. Anyway, its a nice quote during tough times.
@ Karen… that’s really sad, your comment made me think of my mom and how everyone in her life treats her poorly. I bet you have a gentle spirit like she does. Stay strong.

I love this quote. It’s so true and definitely sums up what life should be about. I agree that life is priceless but that the quest for happiness is the happiness itself. Life’s a journey and enjoy the ride, take nothing for granted and share positivity, love and laughter with all. Thanks for posting this article, loved reading it!

I have heard this quote all my life. It has always pissed me off, when I have been going through something , that I could not possibly find a logical reason for. As I have gotten older and more open minded, ÷ can see things much clearly. It is never easy, but I do believe that EVERYTHING happens for a reason. The 1st gift was, when I blessed with a child at the agoe of 42!! I was laid off at 2mo preg and my boyfriend walked away at 3mo. To suck up my pride and and have to ask for help, at that time in my life, was unfathimable. To anyone that has believed that they can’t. Live without a $40,000 car, please take a step back and ask urself what’s really important to u. I’ve traveled, been succesful and beautiful cars, but NOTHING compares to my daughters smile and Love. Nobody said life would be easy, they just said it would be worth it. So, please learn from all of your expierences, there is a leason in them

The love of my life and soulmate and I have been fighting. We had just broke up & were trying to be “friends.” I instantly forgave, but the burning pain of betrayal is weighing deeply in me. In the middle of the night, he texted me some balloons with the beginning of this quote, however I couldn’t read the entire thing. When I googled, I found your sight and read the rest. It gives me hope that perhaps we still had lessons to learn and maybe we will manage to find out way back into each others hearts. We’ve been working on our relationship for 21 years, so it’s been a long journey already. Thank you for the quote and your words that follow. It lessened the pain a bit.

I love this quote. I have it on a ‘sticky note’ on my desktop so that I can read it every day.
Everything is says is true and I have to say I don’t have any regrets about my life. I am retired and loving every moment of my life.

I believe if we can at the very least, whole-heartedly try to live these simple, yet very powerful words most would gain freedom from the bondages of self; those that we know too well, and that effortlessly prevent us from achieving self-fulfillment.
I feel this quote can be used as a life tool to help pave the way for what we were placed on this earth to be…whatever that is!

    Great quote. Thank you!

I love the last three lines of the quote:
“If it changes your life, let it.
Nobody said life would be easy.
They just promised it would be worth it.”
This has become my new mantra for life. Sh.. happens and it’s all about accepting that, learning from it, and moving on.

I found another website that credits the quote to Harvey MacKay, but I was struck immediately by the line about “Forget about the ones who don’t [treat you right].” Thanks for your blog!

I love this quote however instead of forgetting those who do not treat us right lets pray for them. Its hard at times but everyone deserves a chance at happiness and peace.

I find myself with a great urge to hold on to these lines.
Not only these specific ones, but those who say the inevitable “Life is not easy” but also remind you that “it will be worth it”.

Isn’t that what we all wanna know. That things will turn out to be good, and we’ll live a life that was worth living…

What I have learned so far from my life is that we make our own choices.
We need to pick destinations that we’ll enjoy walking to, not only where we’ll be ending up, because I’ve never seen a road with no bumps, no junctions no nothing.
What you need to be able to say is “it’s okay even if it doesn’t work, because heck with it, I loved trying to do it”.
Things always work out some way or the other, not always as imagined, but they do and when they do, nothing is sweeter.

Yes. It is a good feeling to wake up in the morning without regrets. Past is past and future is unborn. Let us live happily for the present moment. Keep helping known and unknown through out the day . GOD is watching. He will be happy with you and he will take care of your needs.
